Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Prof Allahnana Otaki has alleged that 115 trucks of fertilizsers worth N356m were diverted.
By Linus Oota, Lafia

The 115 trucks were among the 300 trucks applied for by the immediate past administration during the 2017/2018 cropping season but stolen in the ministry of agriculture.
Prof Otaki said that all those involved must be made to refund what was diverted.
“When I assumed duty last year as commissioner for agriculture, I met the problem of fertilisers that were applied for in the 2017/2018 cropping season on the ground. Unfortunately, of the 300 trucks applied for, 115 trucks were diverted by the previous administration of the ministry.”

“So when I came, my attention was drawn to it by the Permanent Secretary and we asked how we could recover the fertilisers from the Fertiliser Blennding Plant in Bokos, Plateau State. We resolved to invite the police or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intervene.”
Otaki told reporters that the current situation could not permit them to do so.
He said: “You know the current situation we are in is a political period. People have different ways of reading the situation. By the time you do that, you send a disturbing signal into the public. But then we have to find a most civilised way, like I said, to recover the fertilisers.”
